Ms. Johns is a registered psychotherapist (RP) with over 25 years experience working with individuals and couples who are experiencing life transitions, problems in living and/or symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma and stress. Ms. Johns is also a registered rehabilitation professional (RPP) with experience supporting individuals to return to work after illness, injury or trauma. Sheryl uses an integrative-holistic approach to help clients identify what is causing discontent. She encourages focused attention to uncover the unique context of each client’s concerns (patterns of thinking / behaving / relating) and offers cognitive-behavioural strategies to support client’s goals. Often integrating traditional western approaches to psychotherapy with eastern psychology (meditation, yoga), Ms. Johns helps clients understand themselves in relation to their personal history and environment and supports the exploration of client’s mind/body/spirit in order to empower personal growth, resolve concerns and feel well.
Ms. Johns completed a master’s degree in Applied Psychology and Counselling at the University of Toronto – Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Prior to that, she completed an Honours bachelor degree in Psychology with Concentration in Asian Studies at Brock University.
Before joining Brookside Psychologists, Ms. Johns held directorial and clinically-related positions at Niagara College Student Services and the Ontario March of Dimes. She has been actively involved in a number of foundations and associations, including Niagara Rehab, Lupus Foundation of Ontario, and the College Committee on Disability Issues.
Ms. Johns is a member in good standing with the Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada (Ontario chapter) as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP).
